Someone told me about this which looks worthwhile

Cut and paste this into your web browser address bar:
http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/14435

Then follow the instructions from there.

Makes a change from all the hang/flog/repatriate petitions that are on there!

It means that children adopted out of the care system get supported. It sounds simple eh? But currently the position is very variable.

Powerful thing, democracy…..

I have signed the petition. It's incredible that these children are not currently given the same levels of support across the board as 'looked after children'.

thankyou. im blessed to have 2 adoptees and its been a huge struggle to have their needs recognised and met. its funny because my adoptees say they are half siblings, but bernie (our youngest- she is a birth child) is their whole sister! we are a bohemian mix but we would all be much the poorer without eachother.

sadly, because of lack of support and other complex reasons tied up with early trauma the breakdown rate of families made by adoption is 1 in 3 within 2 years of adoption order.

We must MUST change this if at all possible. It is such a passion for me!

All support welcome.

Jenni xx

Morning mags

Yes I can explain.
Children who have been adopted in the last up to 30 years have been adopted out of the care system. They are children who have not had enough of what they do need and too much of what they don't need.
It was so bad in their birth families that the courts had to intervene and these children are the only children in society who cannot return home.
This early trauma in the first weeks, months and years of life when their brains and bodies are forming causes gaPs in their abilities to manage emotional responses, relationships and attachments, physical development and responses and the ramifications of this are huge.
People are not educated about the long term effects of trauma and so often assume adopted children are the same as other children, in a spirit of 'inclusion' when actually they do need specialist understanding and supports.

The families host to children who have had starts in life like this need specialist therapies, robust respite and training, speech and other specialist medical supports, educationally positive experiences, specialist support.

As a 'looked after' child in the care system they have budget
And workers and people understand these children will have pots of stuff going on.

Once the child has 'adopted' over them all this support stops overnight. For example £500 a term in school per looked after child. Adopted child £0.

The needs of these families are huge and all that support stops once they loose that looked after status.
This petition is to change this.

It will mean families made by adoption get the same recognition of need and support as those host to Looked after children.

Mags ...

There is no wrong or right .. if you want to sign the petition then sign it ..if not then don't .
If you read the title of this post it is obviously something close to Jenni's heart , so please use care in replying.

Rich :)

I have to say how much I agree with Rich on this one. Also, as an adopted child myself, I can fully understand Jenni's huge concerns. Jenni has fought so long and so hard for parity for her two adopted children and this has left her exhausted and often drained. However, we all have the right to decide for ourselves.

Signed. ThumpUp

These children's problems are not cured just by being adopted, they neeed as much support as "looked after" children.
Good luck with it Jenni.

I agree. This post really doesn't need a comment or reply. You sign it or you don't. These things are always emotive and everyone has their opinion but Jenni has done a wonderful job and a bit of thought and consideration is all that is needed.

I am so sorry guys I have got the wrong end of the stick here.I was under the impression that foster children were being paid for and when they get adopted it all stops and ou were asking for it to continue.Which I thought was strange because if you adopt you are vetted and are in a position to support and bring up the child .I honestly thought that your petition was to carry on being paid after adoption. Sorry am I forgiven xx

Hi Mags

Of course you are forgiven. Not that there was anything to forgive. An old proverb " A man who never made a mistake, never made anything."
